LOTRO: Lord of the Rings Online

Running to Rivendell

Sometimes you need to run to Rivendell. The first few times you need to get to Rivendell, you are probably not able to deal with the monsters some of which are as high as level 41.

You might need to get there as part of a crafting quest, or you might possibly be morphed into a chicken, and trying to get there as a level 1 creature with only 42 hit points.

Rest assured, it is definitely possible to make the run, with a lot of patience, and some luck.

Also, here is a map ( not to scale ) of the Run to Rivendell

Finding Sandson's Farm

The chicken quests start at Sandson's farm. If you are running to Rivendell for another reason, just start wherever you are at. Sandson's farm is located in the Shire between Michel Delving and Rushock Bog.
You may need to unlock this by doing other nearby quests first.
Speak with George
You are now a chicken.

What is this strange new box? More importantly, how do I get it out of the way?
Press Ctrl+\ Drag it out of the way, and then press Ctrl+\ to go back to normal mode.
There is actually a series of quests where you turn into a chicken,
we are just going to focus on the most difficult one: Flying the Coop - Trollshaws

Generally speaking, most of these quests involve just pointing in the direction of the arrow, and running.

As a chicken, you should stick to the roads where possible to avoid having to dodge too many monsters.

Also, your map is reset.

To boost or not to boost. If you are in a dangerous area, a boost can be the difference between escape and death. On the other hand, most of the time running along the road, your biggest danger might be falling asleep. I would suggest boosting as long as you feel safe. Also useful, the numlock key will allow you to autorun. Another important key is insert. If you accidentally press it, you will barely move. Press it again to return to normal run speed.

Good news, hungry hobbits pose no threat to you

Taking a short shortcut in Stock.

Do NOT follow your pointer into the old forest, it is NOT a safe place for a chicken. Instead, angle up to the road that takes you to Bree.

Always be looking out for mobs near the roads, this is one of the first danger spots

Danger spot, do not cut corners here, take the bridge.
Note, you can use your camera angle to look around corners. You may already know you can control the direction your character looks by holding down the right mouse button, and moving your mouse. If you hold down the left mouse button, only your camera angle changes. If you stand next to a corner, you can use this to peer around the corner. Very helpful.

Head into Bree, run straight across town

then turn out the south exit

Through the Chetwood Forest, along the road

Danger spot - the yellow tree. Pass this area on the right

Danger spot - do not cut this corner and get too close to the water

The Lone Lands are dangerous, watch out for creatures on or near the road

The broken bridge is safe to pass on the left side, there are no mobs hiding under it

Dangerous spot, keep to the left side of the road, but...
don't run into the birds!

Dangerous spot

Dangerous spots

Out of the Lone Lands at last, and into the Trollshaws. Unfortunately, it's more of the same... You still have a LONG way to travel.

Wise advice indeed

If you run this stretch at night, expect to dodge some trolls.

Danger

Trolls haunt this area at night, be careful.

Dangerous, be careful, there are invisible wolves just off the road here.

We are now turning off the road, time to swim to the south.

Keep to the cliff face here.

Swamp nasties.

It is OK to run on the right bank here for a short ways....

but not for too long, time to swim back down the middle.

We are near our turn
The turn. Head up the bank, and make a sharp left, this is the base of the first ramp.

Dangerous

Very dangerous. In fact, this is the most dangerous spot on our journey. This worm is the cause of half of all deaths I have logged running this path.

Immediately at the top of that ramp is the base of the next ramp up. You can thread the left edge of the green to get up as far away from possible agro as possible.

Here you have a choice, either descend along the left, or climb up to the right.

Once you see the moor hunters, it is best to only move while under the effects of "Paranoia". Invisible cats are the main cause of death going forward.

That is the barest beginning of the new road, but now the danger increases. Stay "paranoid", hover over your "run" button, and be careful!

The ones you can see are the least of your problems.

Staying on the road did not help in this case. The last stretch of this run is the most dangerous. Don't give up! Keep trying until you get it!

Once you see these guys, you are in great shape!
Welcome to Rivendell!
